1992
Also known as The Proteas, South African cricket team was established
by the British, and the first tour by a side from England took place in
1888-89. ICC voted to suspend the team from international cricket
indefinitely in 1970 because of its government's policy of apartheid, a
policy which led them to play only against the white nations (England,
Australia, New Zealand), and field only white players. However it was
reinstated in 1991 and the country hosted the ICC Cricket World Cup in
2003. In World Cup 2007, Graeme Smith leaded the team.
South Africa ranks 1st according to LG ICC ODI Rankings with 4595
points, rated 128. The country has played 30 ICC Cricket World Cups with
a win of 19 matches. They have lost 9 matches and 2 were tied.
