After 2002 in Korea/Japan, this is the
second World Cup participation for Ecuador. Though the team was not
quite good enough to make it through to the knockout stages at the
World Cup but they did finish the group stage with 1-0 victory over
Croatia. Under the guidance of new coach Suarez, Ecuador secured
qualification.
Ecuader is banking on the experience of Ulises de La Cruz, Ivan
Hurtado, Mendez and Agustin Delgado.
The first international of the team was against Bolivia (1-1) in
1938. The largest win was against Peru (6-0) in 1975 and worst
defeat against Argentina (12-0) in 1942. The team appeared for the
Copa America tournament 23 times and the best result was in 1959 and
1993.
