Popularly known as Black Stars, Ghana qualified for the first time in FIFA World Cup Finals. The team has been enjoying tremendous success at the youth level. They won the World Under-17 title twice. The Ghana team also secured the second position at the world youth championship. They has been four times African Cup of Nations' winners (1963, 1965, 1978 and 1982).
The team tried for the finals nine times. Their debut was in 1962 in which they were narrowly knocked out by Morocco and in subsequent years found victory impossible to come by.
