Trinidad and Tobago qualified for the first time in FIFA World Cup. They have tried since 1966. This was their 12th attempt. They missed out narrowly on qualifying in 1974, and in 1990 came tantalisingly close to going to Italy but were beaten 1-0 in their final qualifying match by the United States.
They will be playing in Group B in Germany along with England, Sweden, Paraguay. The key player is Dwight Yorke, who plays for Blackburn Rovers in the English Premier League.
