In this section of
'Constitution of India - Amendments' of India Facts we will discuss
about the amendments procedures in the constitutiion. The
Constitution of India is most frequently amended. The 1st amendment
took place just one year after the adoption of the constitution. It
instituted numerous minor changes. Thereafter, amendments followed
at a rate of two per year. Amendments to the Constitution is a
difficult affair. Methods of amendments are as follows:
- Amendments may be done by simple majority of the Parliament
where a simple majority of members present can vote before
sending it to the President for his assent.
- Amendments may also be done by a simple majority of the
Parliament where two-third majority is required to be present
and to vote before it is send to the President for his assent.
- Amendments may also be done by special majority of the
Parliament and ratification of minimum of half of the state
legislatures. Then it is send to the President for his assent.
