Archery Sports |
Archery is a sport that make use of a bow to shoot arrows.
Historically it has been used in hunting and combat and now it has
become a precision sport. A person who practice archery is called an
archer, and one who is fond of or an expert at archery is sometimes
called a toxophilite.
Modern competitive target archery is usually governed by the
International Archery Federation, or FITA (Fédération
Internationale de Tir à l'Arc). Olympic rules are derived
from FITA rules. There are non-FITA rules as well.
DO YOU KNOW
|
Arrows are generally made of
solid wood, fiberglass, aluminum alloy tubing, or carbon fiber
shafts |
|
Wooden
arrows are prone to warping, and they are not easily
straightened. |
Fiberglass
arrows are very brittle, but are more easily produced to uniform
specifications. |
|
Aluminum
shafts were popular high-performance choice in the later half of
the 20th century because of their light weight, and subsequently
higher speed and flatter trajectories. |
Aluminum
shafts were more easily straightened when bent, but are
susceptible to being "robin hooded" if one arrow hit
the back of another precisely. |

ARCHERY GAMES
- Broadhead Round - It features archers shooting
broadhead-tipped arrows through various single-sheet, 2-D
cardboard cutouts of animals being hung between two wooden
poles, strung in the air by bendable wire, with a large dirt
mound behind it as a backstop.
- Bionic Buck - It features archers attempting to shoot through
a small hole (varies from two to four inches in diameter) in the
kill area of a cast iron steel deer target.
- Darts - It is like a big darts game, at a greater distance
and using a proportional sectorized target.
- Golf Archery - It is a variation of clout archery that uses
the same rules and field as the classic golf, except the ball
replaced by an arrow and the clubs replaced by a bow.
- Night Shooting - It consists of archers going out on a short,
one round course using flashlights to light their way through
the course and use the lights to shine the targets which often
have reflective tape or paint on them.
- Monster Shoot
- Racoon Shoot
- Padded Arrow Sport - In this actual bow and arrow is used
with the arrows head wrapped in open-cell foam padding to make
it a 'safety arrow.'
- Running Buck - The goal here is simply to hit a moving 3D
animal target.
- Turkey Tester - It is a contest to see who can take the head
off the trget, a durafoam 3-D target with a detachable head on
its body.
