Jorhat in Assam is the centre of the tea industry and is surrounded for miles by picturesque tea plantations. It is home to the world renowned Teklai Experimental Centre where research on new varieties of tea and its therapeutic qualities, is conducted. The Assam Agricultural University and the Regional Research Laboratory are also in Jorhat, where advanced research is carried out on plants, herbs and soil. Majuli Island
Majuli Island is the world largest river island in the River Brahmaputra. Majuli is famous for satras, there are over 665 Satra in Assam, out of which 65 are situated in Majuli. The important Satras in this island are the Auniti Satra, Garamur Satra, Kamalabari Satra, and Dakhinpat Satra. The handloom and pottery work of tribes of Majuli is famous all over the world.
Dhekiakhowa Bar Namghar
Dhekiakhowa Bar Namghar is a prayer hall used by Hindu, is situated near Majuli in Jorhat. The room enshrines the idols of Lord Hanuman and Ananta. It was built by saint-reformer Madhavdeb during 1497-1539.
