The Sinquerim Beach
The beautiful beach of Sinquerim is one of the oldest preserved
beaches in Goa. The famous fort Aguada is located near the beach.
Fort Aguada was built by the Portuguese to defend themselves against
any foreign attack via sea route. The Sinquerim beach has been
existing since then and has been protected by the Portuguese for a
long time. The Taj Group of Hotels have build up a five star hotel
around the fort, on the beach. Sinquerim Beach is one of the most
beautiful Goa beaches. It is one of a series of tranquil and
spectacular stretch of sand and an ideal place for swimming.
Major Attractions
Fort Aguada
The fort derived its name from Portuguese word "Aguada"
meaning "Water". The fort was built by Portuguese in 1612
AD. The idea behind the fort was to protect Goa against any enemy
attack from sea. Inside the fort, there is a spring, which was
earlier used to provide water supply to the ships. Currently at one
end of the fort, the central jail of Goa has been made.
Beach Activities
Beach activities here involve swimming, as sea is relatively calmer
here. The beach is a favorite haunt of swimmers. Other activities on
the beach are the regular activities like walking around the shore,
chilling out and spending a lazy day on the beach.
Getting There
Sinquerim is only 13 km from Panjim and therefore a lot of options
are available for moving in Sinquerim from Panjim. Motorbikes are
the best options, while taxis and buses are also an alternative for
transportation. Good accommodation facilities are available near the
beach.
