Major Camping Sites
Sangla Valley, Kinnaur
Sangla valley, also called Bapsa valley, is the most camped sites in Himachal Pradesh. The picturesque valley offers camping on altitudes ranging from 1900 mts to 3500 mts. The Sangla valley is 30 kms from Indo-Tibet borders, and is hardly touched by civilisation. One can enjoy the breathtaking views of Himalayan peaks and snow covered mountains. Go for a walk in a valley bursting with exotic fruits, flowers, birds, butterflies and Himalayan wildlife or walk to nearby villages of Batseri and Rakcham and meet the local inhabitants, the Kinnauris. Sangla valley promises to provide oppurtunity to unwind oneself, the way he wants to.

Tabo Camping
Tabo is a small town in Spiti valley, 47 km from Kaza. Tabo is known for its vast valley and breath taking views of Himalayas. Tabo is famous for its Monastery, which was built in 10th century. The monastery is considered next to the Tholing monastery, the most revered Tibetan monastery. Camping here is more peaceful experience, as the silence is broken only by the sounds of rivers, winds and animal voices.

Hatu Camping
Hatu is situated near Shimla, is at a height of 10500 ft. Camping here can be done amidst jungle. One can see the snowline each morning as out of the tent. With a wide variety of flora and fauna to explore, this camp is ideal for those looking for nature at it's best. Hatu also offers pleasant sunset view, supposedly the best in state. The whole area gets covered in simmering red gold when the sun is setting behind the ranges. Options for adventure sports, like rock climbing is also open in Hatu.


Chail Camping
Chail, 45 kms from Shimla offers camping, where one can easily forget the fast paced life of cities. The city has some very good treks, to explore the forests and meadows. The dense forests around are alive with many species of birds and animals but it is best known for its ‘Scottish red Deer' which were introduced by the Maharaja opf Patiala in early 19th century.

Other major camping sites in Himachal Pradesh are Triund campping, Beas Kund Camping site and Pulga-Kheer Ganga camp. But the options to camps in the wilds and plains are open to visitors, and necessary information can be collected from Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation offices about the camping in the desired places.

Camping and Biking
Camping fun can be doubled when combined with Biking or Trekking. Biking involves use of a mountain bike, to explore the terrains of Himalayas. Foldable tents can be carried on bikes, and after biking for whole day, halt at camps during night is a memotrable experience.

Equipment and Information
Camping does not require apecial equipment, except for the tents. One must go for water proof tents, as they can prevent from drenching in monsoon. There are many agents, which organise camping trips, and offer accommodation, sight-seeing and catering. Also there are readymade tents, which can be hired for a camping holiday in Himachal Pradesh.
