Lahaul & Spiti Adventure Situated at a height of 4800m above sea - level, Lahaul & Spiti are the two remote Himalayan Valleys of Himachal Pradesh. Popularly known as the "twin valleys" of Indian Himalayas it lies on the Indo - Tibet border that encompasses network of soaring mountains and deep valleys. Located amidst lush green forests and towering mountains of Himachal Pradesh, the region of Lahaul - Spiti offers some of the best treks for the trekkers and mountaineers. There are trekking routes available in this part of the city, which are considered as world's best trek routes. To name a few the route to Keylong through Kunzum Pass offers many sports activities beside trekking. A few kilometer away from the Keylong, Chandra Tal is a famous destination for the river - rafting adventure. Tourists are advised to visit Lahaul - Spiti from Manali by hiring a proper guide from the tourism department of Himachal. The best time to visit Lahaul & Spiti via Shimla is between April to October and via Manali from June to October. During this period tourists witness moderate climate hence does not require heavy woollens. Tourists can drive to these locations of Himachal Pradesh provided they have enough resources with them like petrol, food etc. A special permit is required for the foreign tourists to travel in Lahaul - Spiti. The permits are available at Shimla, Rampur and at all the major cities of Himachal Pradesh. Accommodations The Youth Hostel Association of India runs various camps at several location in Himachal Pradesh. It also offers various services and facilities for the trekkers and tourists. Besides, there are government run hotels at some of the location in Lahaul - Spiti Valley. Adventurous Activity Trekking Lahaul & Spiti offers excellent trekking routes to trekkers. Grand Himalayan trek is one of the most popular routes located in the Lahaul & Spiti region. Pin Parvati route is another recommended trek leads to Chandra valley. Rafting Tourists can enjoy river rafting on Chandra river overlooked by the moonscape of Lahaul & Spiti. Though rafting is tough in this river, but with due care it can be done. Mountaineering Lahaul offers many promising peaks for the mountaineers. The Mulkila group and the peaks of Chandra Bhaga are some of the toughest peaks in the area. The Chandra Bhaga is a solid mass of rock and ice encircling the most hostile terrain on earth. Unconquered peaks are also found near the Bara Shigri Glacier and at the headwaters of the Parvati River. |
