Paonta Sahib
Paonta Sahib Known as three important tourists destinations of Sirmaur in Himachal Pradesh, Paonta Sahib is travelled by huge number of Sikh and Hindu pilgrims every year. Located at a distance of 45 km from Nahan on Shimla- Nahan - Dehra Dun road, the city of Paonta Sahib is overlooked by the river Yamuna. The historical city of Paonta Sahib houses a famous Gurudwara build in the memory of Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Guru of the Sikhs. A large number of devotees visit Paonta Sahib to get blessings from the Guru (tutelary of Sikh community). Foundation of The City The historic town of Paonta Sahib was founded by the tenth Guru of Sikh, Guru Gobind Singh who stayed here in the valley of Himachal Pradesh for four years between 1742 to 1745. A famous sanctity among the Sikh and Hindu religion, the city of Paonta Sahib derives its name from the Guru itself. It is believed that his subsequent stay at this place was named as 'Paon-Tika' (foot-rested) and later changed into Paonta. Paonta Sahib Gurudwara Paonta Sahib Gurudwara, which is located on the bank of river Yamuna houses the famous book ( Dassam Granth) of Sikhs religion, written by the Guru Gobind Singh (10th Guru of Sikhs). The historic Gurudwara commemorates the stay of Guru Gobind Singh. On the turf of Gurudwara, there is Shri Talab Asthan used for distributing salaries and Shri Dastar Asthan, a location used to organize famous turban tying competition. Apart from this, a memorial dedicated to Kalpi Rishi, and a museum displaying the pens of the Guru and weapons of those times are also located in the surroundings of the Gurudwara. A calm and peaceful precinct of the Gurudwara invite tourists to spend more and more time at this historical monuments of Himachal Pradesh. Tourist's Delight Situated on the bank of river Yamuna, the city of Paonta Sahib is a bustling town with growing tourism industries. The city of Paonta Sahib comes under the triangular tourists destination of Sirmaur namely Nahan, Renuka and Paonta Sahib. These triangles are famous for the tourists destinations that comprises of many dams, parks and temples. Besides, there is a temple located on the bank of river Yamuna, dedicated to goddesses Yamuna. Apart from the pilgrimage, tourists can also enjoy beautiful walk inside the Ma Yamuna Bal Park, which has a huge statue of Goddesses Yamuna and short statue of Mahatma Gandhi, Pt.
