Rohtang Pass Adventure


Rohtang Pass - An Adventure Destination
Situated at a height of 4111m above the sea-level, Rohtang Pass is 51 km away from Kullu, one of the picturesque valleys of Himachal Pradesh. A gateway to Lahaul Valley, Rohtang Pass provides a wide panoramic view of mountains, rising far above clouds, which is a sight truly breath-taking. One of the beautiful and preferred treks in Himachal Pradesh, the Rohtang pass offers skiing as well as trekking opportunities. Every year between the month of June and September, a large number of adventure freaks tourist throng to Rohtang Pass for splendid and fascinating experiences of lifetime. The area gets maximum snowfall almost nine months in a year, a major attraction in itself, that attracts tourists in high number for its adventurous skiing sports.


Trekkers Paradise
Situated amidst snowy peaks of Northern Himalayas, Rohtang Pass could be described as a trekkers paradise. Here one gets an opportunity to see the majesty of the mountains at its great height. Covered by mountains, glaciers and rivers the long stretch of Rohtang pass provides an excellent venue for the adventurous sports.

Skiing
Rohtang pass, which is covered with snow for nearly nine months in a year provides an excellent opportunity for skiing. Department of travel & tourism provides various facilities and training to the beginners. The only place for skiing in India, where the skiers can indulge in their favorite sport in summer as well as autumn. A few km away from the Rohtang Pass, The Sonapani glacier is located which also offers best skiing opportunities on its slopes.

Trekking
In fact, trekking in Rohtang Pass is an adventurous journey that presents mountain escapes as beautiful as anywhere in the world. Provided with magnificent view of mountain cliffs, silvered waterfalls, pine-spiked ridges, Rohtang pass is a beautiful trek in the Himalayan range. The treks that connects Kullu Valley with Lahaul and Spiti valley of Himachal Pradesh remains open between the month of June and September.

Manali - Lahaul
The treks between Manali and Lahaul is another beautiful trek on the Rohtang Pass, covering the distance of 117 km from Manali to Lahaul. The trek comprises of sulphur springs, Bhrigu lake and many other attractions. The best season for trekking in this area is between June and September.

Shimla - Jalori Pass - Rohtang Pass
Shimla to Rohtang Pass via the Jalori pass is another trek situated amidst wide range of flowers and shrubs of Indian Himalayas. The treks can be covered on foot or on horseback.

Gulaba - Bhrigu Lake
Another trek located near Rohtang Pass leads to Bhrigu lake, which is located 8 km south-east of the Rohtang Pass. The trek starts from Gulaba, covering the distance of 14 km and takes around 6 - 8 hours to reach to Bhrigu lake. Trekkers are advised to carry enough food materials and camping gear as there is nothing available on the route to Bhrigu except small tea shops. It is also advised to hire a guide from the Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports in Manali to avoid wasting precious time in identifying the proper path to lake. The border road organization has a small camp at Gulaba.

Manali - Rohtang Pass - Batal
Manali - Rohtang Pass- Batal, after taking early breakfast at Manali, tourist can drive over Rohtang Pass for Batal. By lunch time tourists reaches Batal, where tents are provided for evening leisure and overnight stay.

How To Reach
Rohtang pass has better connectivity by roads from Manali - Kullu Valley (51 km) but it all depends on the nature. The route can get blocked anytime because of unexpected snowfalls, which is quite apparent here in this part of Himachal Pradesh. Otherwise, Rohtang pass is considered as the world's highest jeepable road.
