Patnitop Travel Guide
Located at a suitable height and surrounded by trees Patinitop is a
peaceful and quiet place in the Jammu region. Its at a distance of four
hours from Katra. We can also visit Sanasar which resembles Patnitop.
Sanasar is on a higher location. While going towards Sanasar,
Mathatop/Nathatop are the places to visit. Patnitop also offers some
trekking routes. Patnitop is 112 kms away from Jammu. Its at a height of
2024 meters across the Jammu Srinagar highway. Patnitop offers beautiful
picnic spots and nice walks in the mountains. In winters the resort is
covered with thick snow. Its a major center for snow games like skiing.
The major center of attraction in Patnitop is its natural charm,
climate, pine forests and lush green cover. That is why its one of the
best resorts of Jammu region.
Getting There:
By Air : The state has three major civil airports at
Srinagar, Jammu, and Ladakh connected to Delhi and other places in the
country.
By Rail : Jammu Tawi is the main railhead of Jammu &
Kashmir. It is connected to most of the important towns and cities of
the country.
By Road : One can easily reach Jammu by the National
Highway 1A that goes from Punjab and runs through this city, connecting
it to the rest of the state, including the capital Srinagar.
To reach Patnitop from Jammu - Buses and Taxis are available from
Jammu/Katra/Udhampur. By a taxi it takes about 3 and a half hours and a
bus takes about 5 hours.
Tourist Attractions:
The Naag (cobra) temple :
The pride of Patnitop is its 600-year-old Naag (cobra) temple. Though
small in size, it reflects the faith and reverence shared by millions of
Indians all over. The evenings in Patnitop are quite cold. The mountains
are covered by fog and visibility can drop to a mere 10 feet. The peak
season is during the summer, though end July to August is beautiful and
not crowded.
Adventure Sports in Patnitop
Skiing at Patnitop:
Skiing courses are conducted at Patnitop in the months of January and
February. During the winter months, there are introductory courses for
tourists/beginners at the gentle gradient slopes of Patnitop. At
Madhatop (5 km from Patnitop on Sanasar Road) excellent possibilities
for all kind of skiing exist.
Paragliding At Patnitop:
Paragliding has been introduced at Sanasar and Jammu. The months from
May to June and September to October are best suited for paragliding.
Other aero sports like Parasailing and hot-air ballooning are also
becoming popular.
