Situated picturesquely in the heart of Chotanagpur at an altitude of 2,140 ft above sea level is the nucleus of the region. Once the summer capital of Bihar, Ranchi is well known for its scenic attractions, waterfalls, barren rocks & hillocks. Bihar Tribal Research Institute and museum is well worth a visit for those seeking to know more about the tribes of Bihar. One can consider some of above all it is the central point of Chotanagpur, which one cannot miss to visit. Due to its good climate, lot of people come here for health sake too. It gets 1530 mm rain annually. By Air : Ranchi is connected by regular flights with Kotkata, Patna, Mumbai & New Delhi. By Rail :Ranchi is on the S.E. Railway & connected with Patna, Rourkela etc. By Road: Ranchi is situated on NH 23/33 & there is a network of good roads arounts it. Ranchi is directly connected by regular bus service with all main places in the state & also outside the state Tourist Attractions: Tagor Hills Rabindranath Tagore is believed to have written number of books & a part of his famous Gitanjali here. Ramkrishna Ashram is also situated at the foot of the hill which is a centre of Divyayen & Agrarian vocational institute. Ranchi Lake Excavated by Col. Onsely, a British agent in 1842, has an boating facilities for the visitors. Ranchi Hills It is a popular health & holiday resort & a place of sacred pilgrimage. The hiltop offers panoramic view of the town. The famous Shiva temple situated on the top of the hill, has a water reservoir on top. At the foot of the hill is a big lake, Kanha dam & an attractive places for the tourists. Angrabadi is actually a temple of complex in Khunti which accomodated the temple of Lord Ganapati, Ram Sita, Hanuman & Shankaracharya Swami. Swarupanada Saraswati having been captivated by serene placid & celestial beauty of Angrabadi rechristened it as Amreshwar Dham. Jagannath Temple This is a replica of the Jagannath Temple at Puri, the only difference being that it stands atop a hill. It is frequented by the tribals as well as the non tribals & is expecially crowed during the annual Rath Yatra & CAr Festival held during July. |
