About Gulbarga
Gulbarga is located in the northeastern part of the state of Karnataka, in the southern region of India. It is 663 km from Bangalore city and 214 km from Hyderabad city. Gulbarga is 613 km north of Banglore is the district headquarters of Gulbarga. A Hindu city before the Muhammadan conquest, Gulbarga is a unique synthesis of two cultures. When Bahman Shah ascended the throne of Daulatabad, it was this city that he chose as his capital. He filled it with beautiful places, mosques, stately buildings and bazaars. he later rulers added to Bahman shah's vision and Gulbarga blossomed. Gulbarga still retains its historic charm.The climate of Gulbarg is temperate with summers (April-June) being moderately hot and winters are cool (November-February). It experiences southwestern monsoon rains in the months of May to July.

Getting There:
Gulbarga does not have an airport of its own.
BY RAIL - As Gulbarga is on the main Mumbai-Bangalore line, a number of express trains are available from here. There are number of trains for Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Kochi.
BY ROAD - Gulbarga is well connected with different parts of Karnataka. There is good bus service from Gulbarga to Bidar (3 hours) and Bijapur (3 hours). Night buses are available for Bangalore and Hyderabad.

Tourist Attractions:
Gulbarga Fort:
The Fort Originally built by Raja Gulchand, it was later strengthened by Ala-ud-din Bahmani. The fort contained 15 towers and 26 guns of which one was 8 metres long. Within the ramparts of the fort, there is an imposing mosque which resembles the great mosque of Cordona in Spain. This mosque is the only one of its kind in the entire country. Several tombs of the Bahmani Sultans can be found in the eastern outskirts of the town

Khwaja Bande Nawaz Durgah:
The tomb of the great Sufi saint, Khwaja Syed Mohammed Gesu, is built in the Indo-Saracenic style. The Durgah Library houses almost 10,000 books in Urdu, Persian and Arabic.

The Shrine of Saint Sharana Basaveshwara
The shrine of an eminent Hindu religious teacher and philosopher who preached religious and social equality. This temple has been developed into a pilgrim centre. The annual fair, lasting for a fortnight, is held during the month of May.
