About the Museum
The Pazhassi Raja Museum is dedicated to the memory of King
Pazhassi of Kerala. The king led a revolt against the East India
Company in late 18th century. He is said to have used Gurrila
warfare technique against the Britishers. Also called Lion of
Kerala, King Pazhassi was shot dead in 1805 by the Britishers. The
museum is a treasure for the lovers of ancient art and artifacts.
Ancient mural paintings, antiques, bronzes, old coins, models of
temples, megalithic monuments like dolmonoid cysts, umbrella stones
etc. are displayed here.The museum is under the surveillance of the
Archaeological Deparment of the State. The art gallery has the oil
paintings and other works of Raja Ravi Varma, a ruler who was more
popular for his paintings.
