Trivandrum Information
About The City
Trivandrum, lying on the southwest coast of India, is the capital
to the state of Kerala. The city derives its name from the deity at
the Sree Anantha Padmanabhaswami Temple, one of the major landmarks
of the place. Thiruananthapuram or Trivandrum retains its past glory
of the capital of a princely state. The capital of Kerala in the
southwestern tip of India, Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum) or
Syanandoorapuri is built on hills with wide-open spaces, sports
stadia and low-lying paddy fields. Thiruvananthapuram is a district
surrounded by the Arabian Sea and the Western Ghats and derives its
name from the deity at the Sree Anantha Padmanabhaswami Temple, one
of the major landmarks of the city.
Thiruvananthapuram is, decidedly, one of the cleaner
and well-planned cities of the country. The city's scenic appeal,
its enchanting beaches, and overwhelming greenery only add to its
uniqueness. It embodies the magical feel of Kerala, as a whole, and
lends terrific insight into the culture of the state. The red-tiled
roofs, the never-ending stretches of palm trees, the maze of narrow,
winding streets and above all, the sea, make for a fascinating
mixture. There is an element of understated and effortless elegance
