Kolhapur is located in the south-west of Indian state of Maharashtra, is an ancient city that has been famous from long time as a center of art, food, textile, footwear and spices in India. The Kolhapur city is also associated for contributing few common names like Kolhapuri Chappal, Kolhapuri lavangi Mirchi (chilly) and Kolhapuri Gur (Jaggery). According to the religious evidences, Kolhapur name refers to a demon Kolhasur who was killed by Goddess Lakshmi and to fulfill the last wish of the demon, Kolhapur was settled. Best Time To Visit Kolhapur
Kolhapur is situated in the western part of Maharashtra with a bit higher altitude and hilly. So, the overall climate of the area is cool. But during summer, it tends to be warm and dry. June to September monsoon season in Kolhapur.
