On the west coast of India, the teeming metropolis Mumbai formerly known as Bombay, the capital of the Maharashtra is the biggest business center deriving its name from the patron goddess of the Koli fisher folk “Mumbadevi”. Its natural port is the largest and busiest port handling a major chunk of Indian foreign trade.

Mumbai houses the population of over 13 million that makes it second largest populous city in the world. This city is also known as the entertainment capital of India as it has the biggest films and television entertainment production houses of Hindi film industry which is called bollywood.

Places Worth Vising in Mumbai
There are many forts, caves and palaces in Mumbai, which are a must see for any tourist with a taste in history. Gateway of India is the most famous historic landmark in Mumbai. The Flora Fountain, Marble Palace, The Elephanta Caves, St. George's Fort, Vasai Fort and Rajabhai Clock Tower are some other places of historic interest. Mumbai houses many museums, art galleries and libraries. Mumbai has people of various religions hence there are numerous religious places in Mumbai. The world famous Haji Ali Mosque is located here. The Mahalaxmi Temple, Banganga, Mumbadevi Temple, Jain Temple and St. Thomas Cathedral are also among the other famous religious destinations in Mumbai.
Situated on the coast of Arabian Sea, it also offers many beautiful beaches for its tourists to enjoy sun, sand and sea. Two of its very famous beaches are Chowpatty and Juhu Beach. Chowpatty Beach is situated on the Marine Drive and it is famous for its Bhelpuri and Panipuri. At night, it is lined with vendors, entertainers and children's rides. On the other hand, Juhu Beach is a long stretch of sandy beach from Santacruz to Vile-Parle and is a very famous picnic spot. Other beaches in Mumbai are Madh Island and Gorai Beach.
Picture of Mumbai cannot be completed without mentioning Bollywood, the biggest Indian film industry that churns out hundreds of Hindi blockbusters every year. This has also made Mumbai's fashion a trend setter for the entire country.
