Pune is at the confluence of the Mutha and Mula river,surrounded by hills and lies in the natural settings having pleasant climate. Pune is a significant milestone in the history of India. For many years Pune was the pulse of the Maratha land and has given India some of its most memorable personalities.

Pune city is the district headquarter in Maharashtra state in West India located on the Deccan Plateau at the confluence of Mula and Mutha river. Pune is the second largest city of Maharashtra and eighth largest in India that is existing as a town since 937 AD. During the British rule in India Pune town was a cantonment area and also was the monsoon capital of Bombay presidency. Since independence of India, Pune has marked remarkable growth in its industrial sector and also developed as a centre of learning (called Oxford of the east) with the establishment of number of universities and educational institutes imparting education of Management, IT and Engineering. Apart, it houses institutions for sports, yoga, ayurveda, culture and social services.

Must Visit Places in Pune
One of the major attractions of the city is Osho Commune International, an ashram set up by Rajneesh Osho for teaching meditation. Apart from that, the city serves as the base for visiting Shirdi, known for housing the samadhi temple of Sri Sai Baba. The Buddhist caves of Bhaja and Karla are also situated quite near to Poona. The rich history, architecture and culture of the city makes it a must visit destination for the tourist coming to India.
Events and Festivals of Pune
The festivals celebrated at Pune are also a major tourist attraction. Some of the important festivals are the Pune festival, which celebrates classical music, dance and theater. Folk and fine arts are also a part of this internationally recognized festival. Apart from this, there are other festivals also that are celebrated here. Among them Sawai Gandharva festival, Chaturshringi festival, Ganesh Chaturthi, Osho festival and college festivals are the important ones.
