About Chittorgarh The pride and glory of Rajasthan, Chittorgarh is known as the city of bravery and romance. Many legends and tales associated with heroism and sacrifices of the passionate men and women of Chittorgarh make it a wonderful place to visit. Summers are quite hot (April-June) and winters are cool (October-February). It experiences scant rainfall between June and August. Chittor is on the main bus and rail routes. By Road, it's 182km from Ajmer, 158km from Bundi and 112km from Udaipur. There are frequent connections to these places. All the Kota buses go via Bundi (a slow 4 1/2 hour trip).It's possible to take an early bus from Udaipur to Chittorgarh (Rs 44, three hours), Udaipur to Chittorgarh (Rs 44, three hours), spend about three hours visiting the fort, and then catch a late afternoon bus to Ajmer, but this is definitely pushing it. Chittorgarh has rail links with Ahmedabad, Ajmer, Udaipur, Jaipur, Kota and Delhi Tourist attractions: Vijay Stambh Or 'victory Tower: Built by Rana Kumbha in 1440 , to commemorate the victory over the combined forces of the kings of neighboring Malwa and Gujarat, this tower is 120ft. (36.5mts) high and has a girth of 30 ft. at the base, the nine storied high limestone structure is richly ornamented from top to bottom. The Chittorgarh Fort: The indomitable pride of Chittorgarh, the fort is a massive structure with many gateways built by the later Maurya rulers in 7th century A.D. Perched on a height of 180 m. high hill, it sprawls over 700 acres. The tablets and chattris within are impressive reminders of the Rajput heroism. The fort has many magnificent monuments, all fine examples of the Rajput architecture. The ancient ruins of the fort are is good enough reason to travel to Chittorgarh. Gardens and Parks : Pratap Park, Meera Park and Nehru Park are beautifully laid out parks in lush surroundings. Beautiful Khwaja Rose Garden at Sawa is just 13-km from Chittaur. Government Museum - Chittor The magnificent Prakash Mahal, presently a fine museum with an exquisite example of sculptures from temples and buildings in the fort is worth a visit. Closed on Fridays. Jaimal and Patta Palaces : The ruins of palaces of Rathore Jaimal and Sisodia Patta are witness to the gallantry of these great warriors. |
