A Glance on Desert National Park
The Desert National Park, one of India's largets wildlife sanctuaries, is situated near Jaisalmer in Rajasthan. The park is spread in an area of 3100 sq km. Over one-fifth of the park area is covered by sand dunes. The Desert national park supports a unique ecosystem, which is formed by the large spread desert and shrubs and trees of desert origin. The major landform consists of craggy rocks and compact salt lake bottoms, intermedial areas and fixed dunes. For tourists covering the Jodhpur-Jaisalmer-Bikaner circuit, this park is a must visit.
Wildlife attractions
The major wild life attractions in the park are Blackbuck, Chinkara, Wolf, Indian fox, Desert fox, Hare, Desert cat, Sandfrouse, Grey Partridge, Bengal Fox, Saw-scaled Viper and Sand Krait. The park is best known for its population of Great Indian Bustard. This species of bird was once declared endangered, but now they are much more in number and are easily sighted in the park. Other birds found here are Partridges, Bee-eaters Larks, Shrikes, Harriers, Falcons, Buzzards, Kestrel, Vultures, Short-toed Eagles, Tawny Eagles, Spotted Eagles and Lagger.
The Park Trip
The park can be seen on a jeep safari. Camping is also a good option for those looking for a solitude. The foreign nationals have to take prior permissions from the administrative authorities. Due to park's proximity to Pakistan border, security has been raised.

The park is open from October to April and is closed for the rest of the year.
