separate pantry and lounge in each coach, comfortable coupes with the
privacy of attached bathrooms, two special bathrooms, two special
restaurant - Maharaja and Maharani, serving exotic Indian, continental
and Rajasthani cuisine, a well stocked bar, a reading and relaxing coach
and friendly smiling attendants serving round the clock.
The Palace on wheels was constructed for the erstwhile
Indian royalty. This heritage train of Rajasthan comprised of personal
coaches of the former rulers of the princely states of Gujarat and
Rajputana, the Viceroy of British India and the Nizam of Hyderabad.
After independence, the Palace on Wheels was abandoned and it was not
until the early 1980s that the train was reconsidered. The Rajasthan
Tourism Development Corporation and the Indian Railways decided to
introduce it as a special heritage tourist train to Rajasthan. Since
then, the train has entertained people from all over the world.
The Trip
The seven days tour on Palace on Wheels takes on the trip of the royal
Rajasthan. The trip starts and ends in Delhi. It covers the Pink city of
Jaipur, the divinely beautiful Chittaurgarh, Udaipur with its
picturesque lakes and lake palaces, Sawai Madhopur & Ranthambore
National Park, the jewel of desert-Jaisalmer, majestic stronghold of
Jodhpur, Bharatpur with its remarkable and lively bird sanctuary, The
red stone city of Fatehpur Sikri and the indispensable trip to Taj Mahal
at Agra. The visitors are familiarized with the culture, dance, music,
fairs and festivals of Rajasthan. The hospitality on the train gives an
hint of the royal lifestyle of the past rulers of Rajasthan.

The train is on the journey every week and advanced booking for the
journey shall be made. The fare covers travel, stay on Maharaja train
with daily 3 fixed meals, conducted sightseeing tours, entrance fees to
monuments, joy rides on Elephant & Camel, boat ride, cycle rikshaw
ride and transport within the city.
