About Pushkar - The Holy City Pushkar is the only place in the world where Brahma is worshipped. Surrounded on three sides by mountains and by desert on the fourth side, Pushkar is a very beautiful city. The lake Pushkar in the mid of the city adds to the charm of the city. The markets and the eateries are the icing on the cake. A holy place for the Hindus, Pushkar is close to Ajmer, home to the Dargah of Khwaja Moin-Ud-Din-Chisti. There are around 500 temples in the city, with the temple of lord Brahma and his wife Savitri being the most visited ones. Tourist Attractions Pushkar Fair The Pushkar fair is a very famous event. Celebrated to worship Lord Brahma, creator of the world, Pushkar draws thousands of pilgrims every year. The lake Pushkar is the centre of the celebrations. It is said that the lake was formed when few petals of the lotus held by Brahma fell here. Since then the lake is also worshiped as a blessing of Brahma. Cultural festivals, Dance and cattle fairs are the major attractions during the Pushkar festival. Brahma Temple The Brahma temple is one of its kind in the world for enshrining Lord Brahma. A curse by the wife of lord Brahma made it as the only Brahma temple in the world and the only place where Brahma can be worshipped. The Brahma temple is decorated heavily during the Pushkar fair. The temple is built of marble and is very attractive place. Savitri Temple The Savitri temple is the temple of Savitri, wife of Brahma. The temple is situated n the top of a hill and makes a beautiful spot. It is said that this place was chosen by Savitri for been worshipped by the devotees. Pushkar Lake The Pushkar lake is the main place for the Pushkar fair. Pushkar lake is said to be formed by the petals of the lotus held by lord Brahma. It is said that when these petals fell in Pushkar, a deep blue lake was formed. There are 52 ghats and more than 400 temples around the lake. |
