About Umaid Bhawan Palace
The Umaid Bhawan Palace is located three kilometres from Jodhpur
domestic airport and just five kilometres from Jodhpur railway
station.Umaid Bhawan Palace Jodhpur was built by H V Lancaster in 1943.
The palace, which has been converted into a fine hotel, provides an
ideal base to tour Jodhpur. The U is part of the beautiful palace and
another part of the palace has now been converted into a museum.
On 18th November 1928, the foundation stone was laid Maharaja Ummaid
Singh in the presence of priests and pundits. Principal construction was
partly completed in May 1944 finished in March 1948 by 3090 workers. The
palace has unique feature of incorporating of all the luxuries and
recreational amenities usually associated with a modern palace which are
under one single roof. One comes to the porch passing through a
beautifully Out garden and enters the palace through a picturesque
bronze manufactured specially in England.
It took three thousand artisans 14 years to create this
magnificent edifice. Umaid Bhawan Palace at Jodhpur is one of the
largest and grandest private residences in the world. The palace was
built by 3000 artisans worked over 14 years. The palace consumed one
million square feet of the finest marble.
