Vrindavan City Guide
Vrindavan is the small town, 15 Km from Mathura, is an another major place of pilgrimage in the state of Uttar Pradesh in the northern part of India. In Vrindavan, lord Krishna was secretly brought up. The town witnessed the child, teen and adolescent Krishna. The temples of Vrindavan city are dedicated to the young aged Krishna, when he was a mischievous child. This is the wood where he frolicked with the gopis and tenderly wooed Radha. This most revered destination of the Hindus is thronged by thousands of Tourists from all over the country.
There are over 5,000 temples in Vrindavan which are architecturally one of the most advanced Hindu temples in northern India. Attracting about 500 000 pilgrims every year, mainly during major festivals like Janmashtami, Holi and Radhashtami, it is noted for its numerous temples, both old and modern, big and small, believed to be around 5000 in number ! The city is also home to the famous Bankey Bihari Temple and the first ISKCON temple, which was built with funds coming from devotees overseas. Here, the marble buildings almost glow with a light of their own and there is evidence of intricate carving.
Set in idyllic environs, this beautiful city has many jewel palaces and temples surrounded by the best of nature's bounty. The regal swans in the waters of the Yamuna, among the beautiful lotus flowers, the kadamba trees, fragrant flowers and the sweetly singing make it place of spiritual peace.
