About Lakshman Jhula
The Lakshman Jhula is a prime tourists attraction in Rishikesh. It is a
landmark in Rishikesh. The bridge, is a suspension iron bridge, made
over river Ganga to cross the river. The view from the bridge,
especially the view of the high current of the river is incomparable.
One can enjoy the spectacular surroundings and the cool breeze from the
River while standing on the bridge. If you feel like feeding the fish in
the Ganges, take a boat and cross the river. The boat ride makes the
bridge appear more gorgeous.
History
Legends have it that Lakshman, brother of lord Rama once crossed river
Ganga on a suspension bridge made of jute. The new bridge is said to be
built on the same site of the historic bridge. The current bridge was
built in 1939 AD. A multistory temple complex, called Terah Manzil, of
idols of Hindu gods and goddesses near Lakshman Jhula is very popular
amongst the locals. One can have an excellent view of the entire area
from the top floor of the temple complex. Sunset view from this place in
winters is a excellent option.
Getting There
Lakshman Jhula is one of the most visited sites in Rishikesh. One can
get rickshaws or Auto rickshaws to move to this famous site.
