Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT)
Central Board of
Direct Taxes came into force on 1st Jan, 1961. It has been taking care
of all direct tax related matters in India. It is working under Central
Board of Revenue Act 1963.
CBDT is an important part of Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance (India). It plays a vital role in planning & implementing direct taxes policy in India. It also monitors direct taxes law followed by Income Tax Departments.
CBDT works under its chairman who also works as an official secretary to the Government of India. Chairman with other members, who are also official secretary to the Government of India, constitute top management of Income Tax Department. All these members are from Indian Revenue Services.
