Matki Chi Usal

Ingredients Matki Chi Usal
  • 2 cup: Green grams
  • 2 large: Onions(chopped)
  • ½ cup: Chopped tomatoes
  • 1 tsp: Coriander leaves
  • 1 tsp: Mustard seeds
  • ½ tsp: Asafoetida
  • 1 tsp: Turmeric powder
  • 2 tsp: Red chilli powder
  • ½ tsp: `Goda' masala
  • 2 tsp: Grated coconut
  • 1 tsp: Jaggery
  • 1 tsp: Peanut powder
  • 2 tsp: Oil
  • ½ tsp: Salt
  • 2 cup: Water
Method
  1. Soak green grams overnight. Boil for five minutes with ½ tsp turmeric powder and ½ tsp salt. Keep aside.
  2. Heat oil in pan. Add mustard seeds, asafoetida and onions. Wait till onions turn translucent. Add tomatoes, turmeric powder and red chilli powder. Stir for 1/2 a minute.
  3. Add the par boiled green grams. Add salt to taste. Add 1/2 tsp goda masala or garam masala. Add grated coconut.
  4. Add jaggery and peanut powder.
  5. Garnish with coriander leaves and desiccated coconut.
  6. Serve with jawaar roti or bread.
