Samuel Matthew Curran MBE (born 3 June 1998) is an English cricketer who plays for England in all formats. In domestic cricket, he represents Surrey, and has played in multiple Twenty20 leagues, including for Punjab Kings and Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League. On 23 December 2022, he was the subject of the highest bid in the history of Indian Premier League, when he was bought for £1.85 million (Rs. 18.5 crore) by Punjab Kings.
Curran was born in Northampton, England, to Kevin Curran, a former Zimbabwe cricketer, and Sarah Curran. He has an older brother, Tom, who is also a cricketer. The Curran brothers grew up playing cricket in their garden, and their father was their first coach.
Curran made his first-class debut for Surrey at the age of 17 in 2015. He quickly established himself as a talented all-rounder, and was named Surrey's Young Player of the Year in 2016. In 2017, he was selected to play for England Lions, the national A team.
Curran made his international debut for England in a Test match against Pakistan in June 2018. He took four wickets in the match, and was named Man of the Match. He made his ODI debut against Australia in September 2018, and his T20I debut against Pakistan in April 2019.
Curran has played 26 ODIs for England, scoring 383 runs at an average of 24.56, and taking 34 wickets at an average of 23.61. His best bowling performance in ODIs is 4/75 against Pakistan in 2021.
Curran has played 41 T20Is for England, scoring 185 runs at an average of 11.56, and taking 50 wickets at an average of 19.62. His best bowling performance in T20Is is 5/10 against Afghanistan in 2022.
Curran has played 24 Tests for England, scoring 815 runs at an average of 25.46, and taking 77 wickets at an average of 26.95. His best bowling performance in Tests is 7/100 against India in 2021.
Curran has not yet captained any team at international level. However, he has captained Surrey second XI and Surrey Under-19s.
Curran is currently dating model and influencer India Reynolds. He is also a keen golfer and enjoys playing video games.
Curran is a talented and versatile cricketer who has the potential to become one of the best all-rounders in the world. He is still young, but he has already achieved a lot in his career.
