Alex Carey Introduction

Alex Carey is an Australian international cricketer who was born on August 27, 1991. He is a wicket-keeper and left-handed batsman who plays for the Australian national team in all three formats of the game. He also plays domestic cricket for South Australia and Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League.

Early Life and Family

Carey was born in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, Australia. He grew up playing both cricket and Australian rules football. He was a talented footballer and was captain of the Greater Western Sydney Giants in 2010. However, he decided to focus on cricket after being left out of the Giants' squad for the 2012 Australian Football League season.

Early Cricket Career

Carey made his first-class debut for South Australia in 2016. He quickly established himself as a reliable wicket-keeper and batsman. In the 2016-17 Sheffield Shield season, he scored over 500 runs and affected 50 dismissals, becoming only the fourth gloveman to achieve this feat in a single season.

International Debut

Carey made his international debut for Australia in an One Day International (ODI) match against New Zealand in January 2018. He was named vice-captain of the ODI team in May 2019, and he played a key role in Australia's victory in the 2019 Cricket World Cup. He also made his Test debut in November 2020, and he was appointed vice-captain of the Test team in December 2021.
