Travis Head Introduction

Travis Michael Head (born 29 December 1993) is an Australian international cricketer. He is contracted to South Australia and the Adelaide Strikers for domestic matches. He is an aggressive left-handed middle-order batsman and a part-time right arm off-spin bowler. He is also a former co-vice-captain of the Australian national team in Tests.

Early Life and Family

Head was born in Adelaide, South Australia. He is the son of Shane Head, who played first-class cricket for South Australia and Tasmania. Head's younger brother, Joel, is also a cricketer, and currently plays for the Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League.

Early Cricket Career

Head made his first-class debut for South Australia at the age of 18 in 2011. He quickly established himself as a regular member of the side, and in 2015 he was appointed captain of the Redbacks. Head led the Redbacks to their first Sheffield Shield final in 20 years in 2015-16.

International Debut

Head made his international debut for Australia in a T20I match against India in February 2016. He made his ODI debut in the same series, and his Test debut against Pakistan in October 2018.

ODI Career

Head has played 38 ODIs for Australia, scoring 1124 runs at an average of 30.13. He has scored two centuries and five half-centuries in ODIs. His highest score in ODIs is 152, which he scored against India in 2019.

T20I Career

Head has played 49 T20Is for Australia, scoring 1090 runs at an average of 23.91. He has scored five half-centuries in T20Is. His highest score in T20Is is 66, which he scored against India in 2016.

Test Career

Head has played 52 Tests for Australia, scoring 3724 runs at an average of 42.76. He has scored nine centuries and 13 half-centuries in Tests. His highest score in Tests is 175, which he scored against England in 2022.

  • Head was the Player of the Match in the 2023 ICC World Test Championship final, after scoring 163 runs in Australia's first innings.
  • Head is the second-fastest Australian to score 3000 Test runs, after Donald Bradman.
